Lobola Man begins with the introduction of the main character, Ace Ngubeni. Ace is a ladies man who sleeps around and if there’s one thing he’s most particular about, it is his job.
The introduction of the movie was more than enough to have us hooked to the screen, because it was fun, with some great music, and of course, Ace. One can tell that Lobola Man has plenty to offer, and that’s exactly what happens as the movie progresses.
Ace has no problem when it comes to succeeding in his job, or even outside of it, as his smooth talking is good enough to convince just about anyone. However, his most recent case and the main premise of Lobola Man are a little different from the rest.
Duke and Zandi are the latest couple with Duke desperately needing Ace’s help. But Ace and Zandi’s brief history is all set to cause more trouble than Ace would have initially anticipated. After plenty of contemplation, Ace decides to help Duke, and this is where Labola Man gets a little more predictable but continues to remain enjoyable.
Sparks fly between Zandi and Ace, while Zandi prepares to marry the nicest man she has ever met, Duke. A love triangle would have been the more obvious route for this movie, and while that’s the one Lobola Man it takes, it doesn’t lose its spark at any point.
Ultimately, there’s a happy ending for everyone in store when it comes to this South African comedy movie, and special mention goes to Duke, Ace, and Zandi, the three main characters who were well-written and the main reason Labola Man was an entertaining watch from start to finish!
