Women in Blue Episodes 1 & 2 Review: Strong Premise Paired with Stronger Performances

Apple TV+‘s latest series, Women in Blue, follows four women –  María, Valentina, Gabina, and Ángeles, as they join the first female police force after a serial killer targets women in Mexico City. The first two episodes of the series are now available to watch on the streaming platform, and so far, things are looking good!

Admittedly, this series appears to be an ode for the women, from the women but can be enjoyed by anyone who likes plenty of drama with suspense. In this review, we will explore a little more about what worked versus what didn’t work for the two-episode premiere, so make sure you stick around!

A Powerful Yet Emotional Series

Women in Blue starts by establishing part of the plot that will be seen in the coming episodes, and that includes the serial killer at loose in the city, who is called “The Undresser.”

This man, as his title suggests, undresses women before he kills them, and now, women all across the city are terrified of leaving their homes, but the police and their minuscule efforts mount to nothing when it comes to catching the man.

The pilot episode also introduces the viewers to the main characters, and how their lives are panning out amid a serial killer going around the city, targeting women.

There’s also a reflection on the outrage this incident has caused, and more importantly, the police’s response to it, which also brings a political element to the series, heightening the tension, and putting forth the main subplot of Women in Blue – a female police force.

In many ways, the first episode of Women in Blue is beyond profound because it deals with the several struggles of women. Taking care of her family, finding love in a loveless marriage, trying to cement a place in society, worrying about their own safety, and so much more.

All these struggles are deeply looked into when it comes to this Apple TV+ series, and in many ways, it is often emotional.

Towards the end of the first episode, a women police is formed as they graduate after some rigorous training which will help them begin work, and each of these women is determined to find the serial killer, who is the biggest threat to the women of Mexico City. While the pilot episode is wonderful, the second episode feels like a bit of a letdown compared to everything that was built up so far.

In the second episode of Women in Blue, the women begin their jobs in the police force and quickly realize that things aren’t what they seem, not even remotely so, and they might just have to take matters into their own hands.

This series so far has been about a serial killer, an incredibly corrupt system, rotten roots of the police force, plenty of angry women, and determined women.

Conclusion

While Women in Blue might not be the best series on Apple TV+ just yet, it does show plenty of promise, so we are definitely keeping a lookout for future episodes, and we are intrigued to know if you are too, so let us know in the comments.
