Is Cleo Johnson Alive?
Before we expand on the ending of Lady in the Lake Episode 7, it is important to know one key detail, Cleo Johnson is alive. The episode clarifies this at the beginning of the episode and also explains how Reggie and Cleo managed to pull this off, and it happened because of the untimely and heartbreaking death of Dora.

But, it is safe to say that Cleo is alive, and remains alive in all of the series finale, and she lets Maddie in on her aim, which is to take down Shell Gordon, for the assassination attempt especially, which can be pinpointed as the starting point of Cleo’s downfall.
What Happens to Shell Gordon?
Cleo uses Reggie’s help to take Shell Gordon down, and they devise the heist of the series, which will eventually lead to his downfall.
Ultimately, Gordon becomes the “villain” of Lady in the Lake as everything that has happened in the series leads to this very moment, and it is nice to see Cleo succeed for once, even though she had to dress up as a man, as her and Reggie sneak into the Gordion hotel to steal Gordon’s ledgers, and once Cleo has done the job, Reggie decides to stay back, holding Gordon at gunpoint, something he has wanted to do for a long time now.

Gordon is put behind bars, and Cleo also hands all the proof of Gordon’s work to Maddie, from tax evasions to pay-offs to the police, and this is all Maddie needs to write her big report. Cleo ultimately leaves the country with her boys and goes away to Paris, continuing Dora’s legacy which was cut-short as she now aims to fulfill her dreams.
Conclusion
While this wasn’t the ending we expected for Lady in the Lake, the series feels complete, that’s exactly what all viewers would have wanted. Let us know in the comments below if you’re happy with the series finale of this mini-series, which is now streaming on Apple TV+.
