Dark Matter on Apple TV+ has finally come to an end, and this series based on the book by Blake Crouch, had a shockingly peaceful ending. Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Oakes Fegley, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, and Dayo Okeniyi have showcased some of their best performances in this series which gave them the space to do so as it explored the concept of multiverse in a rather unique way – here’s looking at you Marvel!
9 episodes of Dark Matter didn’t seem nearly enough to explore a concept this vast, but this series managed to do the same, and the conclusion was satisfying to some extent, but a little unexpected.
The likelihood of it being a success amongst the viewers is really subjective, and in this review, we will explore that statement a little more, so make sure you stick around.
All Ways Lead to The Box
In Dark Matter Episode 8, we witnessed the Dessen family reuniting once again after Jason 1, aka the original Jason that we were introduced to made it back to his universe. However, it was also revealed that several other Jasons were in that universe, and it truly felt like a multiverse of Jasons, but only one of them could be with Daniela and Charlie.

Episode 9 of the series picks up with the family trying to get away from the chaos that has been caused in the city, and hopefully find somewhere to at least spend the night. Luckily, Charlie is able to help them out, and a good chunk of the series finale is an amalgamation of Charlie, Jason 1, and Daniela spending time with one another, being a family again.
While these scenes are a wholesome and much-needed reunion, it took away from the “wow” element that were looking for, considering the fact that Dark Matter Episode 9 is the series finale of an otherwise twisted series that often left us confused and second-guessing.
This finale episode was rather straightforward, but still had a few moments scattered around that kept us on the edge of our seats.

Jason 2, aka the evil Jason, finally comes to realize the destruction he has caused to the lives of many Jasons across the multiverse, and in the series finale, he is also given a redemption arc of sorts, and ultimately it is he who helps Jason 1, Daniela and Charlie escape an army of Jasons.
It also eventually made sense for the Dessen family to use the box, because this universe, their home, wasn’t safe for them anymore, and luckily, another army of Jasons allowed them to do so. Dark Matter Episode 9 had a happy ending of sorts with a glimpse at characters like Amanda, Leighton, and Ryan in their respective new lives. In some ways, it was perfect, in others, it felt underwhelming, hence it remains subjective.

Conclusion
Ultimately, Dark Matter as a series gets the job done as it adapts Blake Crouch’s novel with the help of some great performances, dialogue, and a dive into the multiverse. We will make sure you stay updated with Dark Matter Season 2, should it happen!
